Okay, I actually love this “I Hate Your Taste In Books” trend because it hits close to home. I am a child raised on magic. A Kansas girl who luxuriated in the pages of books and hours of playing make-believe (mostly Robin Hood) outside. As I grew into adulthood, I quickly realized that magic and myth was often interpreted as “childish”. That it was cooler to have read Infinite Jest than Interview with The Vampire. Yet I never gave up on my love of speculative, magical worlds, even when I could tell I was being judged.
They’re remain my favorite place to be transported to, and I now publish speculative authors, and maybe even one day will publish a magical, mythological novel myself.
And here are some of my all-time favorite authors and stories that expand my imagination and remind me to dream:
COLIN GETS PROMOTED AND SAVES THE WORLD
CHAIN-GANG ALL-STARS
THIS IS NOT A TEST
BURY OUR BONES IN THE MIDNIGHT SOIL
BOOK OF LONGINGS
THE KING OF INFINITE SPACE
JAMES
CIRCE
LOCAL HEAVENS
THE BOOK OF LOVE
SKY FULL OF ELEPHANTS
THE CHILDREN
THE WITCH’S HEART
